Proofreading

The correction of misspellings, punctuation errors, typographical errors, and formatting inconsistencies. Proofreading may also include checking for consistency within and between documents.

Light Editing

The correction, in addition to those corrections covered under Proofreading, of grammatical errors. Attention will also be given to capitalization, word usage, tone, and format. 

Heavy (Substantive) Editing

Heavy editing may include rewriting sections that are unclear or awkward, reorganizing to improve structure, and/or rewriting to improve tone or style. I will also check the content for any gaps, redundancies, or inaccuracies. Where appropriate, heavy editing will include suggestions for improving the content of the document. If applicable, heavy editing will also address character development, voice, plot, and tension.

Manuscript Evaluation

The evaluation of a manuscript to determine its strengths and weaknesses and to give feedback and suggestions on how to make improvements.

Price Quotes

I will submit a firm price quote for your approval before starting any work. The price quote will be based upon an evaluation of your manuscript or document (or a portion of it) and will depend on the amount of editing, proofreading, or manuscript evaluation required.

Proofreading rates: $2.00 - $3.00/page ($.008 - $.012/word) 

Light editing:  $3.00 - $4.00/page ($.012 - .016/word)

Heavy editing:  $4.00 - 6.00/page ($.016 - .024/word)

Manuscript evaluations: $1.00/page ($.004/word)  

*Note: The standard page in professional editing and proofreading is 250 words. This is approximately a typewritten, double-spaced page using a standard font. In Word 2003, it is calculated using the Tools menu>Word count.). In Word 2007, the word count appears on the bottom left side of the page/window.

I normally request prepayment.  However, I will accept partial payments for lengthy documents or manuscripts. My preferred method of payment is by check. I also accept PayPal payments, which allow for the use of debit and credit cards.
